A Weekend in McCarthy

Historic buildings built following the slope of the side of mountain.

At the end of the 60 mile McCarthy dirt road lies a small town that is big on adventure. With no public road access into the town, leave your car at the bridge and walk or take the shuttle ½ mile into McCarthy or 5 miles into Kennecott. Stay in the private lodging available or utilize the free Kendesnii Campground in Kennecott. Stop into the ranger station to learn about the history of the area then hit the trails up mountains, along glaciers, and even across the Root Glacier.
