Wildlands Update

Midsummer Night Science Series at Campbell Creek Science Center!

Come discover the natural wonders of Campbell Tract, Anchorage's wild backyard. Interact with local professionals and discover the processes of science and the natural processes of science and natural resource management. These family-friendly, hands-on workshops are free and open to the public.  

July 14
: Polar Dinosaurs
What made these animals special?  How were polar dinosaurs different from other dinos?  Come and learn about polar dinosaurs and their strategies for living at the north and South Poles!  Don't miss Katch Bacheller's exciting presentation that will delight dinosaur fans of all ages!

July 28: Incredible Insects
Did you know that one out of every four animals on earth is a beetle?  Come discover more about the most diverse and successful group of animals called insects.  We'll discover the characteristics insects share and hunt for insects in the woods and fields of Campbell Tract.

August 11: Weather
How do meteorologists predict the weather?  Crystal balls?  Achy knees?  Come learn about the ins and outs of weather research and how you can read the skies to predict your next sunny day adventure!

August 25: Mushroom Fair
Join local mushroom enthusiasts as they share their knowledge about mushrooms through posters, discussion, and specimens from all over Southcenteral Alaska.  Bring specimens to identify from your own backyard.

Horsetail in the Boreal ForestDid You Know?
Forests only cover about 37 percent of Alaska's land area, but one large part of this forest coverage is the taiga, which is Russian for 'little sticks.' Also known as the boreal forest, it is the largest terrestrial biome on the planet, is circumboreal, and contains most of the world's trees.
